Membership categories

Four ways to be part of the Union.

Every member is registered annually, covered by the NHU insurance framework, and eligible to compete in NHU-sanctioned indoor and outdoor competitions.

• Player membership

  For all senior and junior players registered to an NHU-affiliated club. Required to play in the outdoor league, the indoor league, and to be selected for national squads.

• Coach registration

  For NHU-licensed coaches. The Union runs FIH-aligned coaching courses from Level 1 through to Level 3. Licensed coaches are required to manage NHU-affiliated clubs and national squads.

• Umpire registration

  For graded umpires. The NHU runs outdoor and indoor umpiring courses with international instructors — the next Outdoor Hockey Umpires Course is scheduled for 5–6 June 2026 in Windhoek, with international umpire Peter Caulder (International Umpire).

How registration works

A simple four-step pathway.

1. 01

   Find a club

   Browse the NHU club directory and contact a club near you.

2. 02

   Pick a category

   Player, coach, umpire, or official. Each has its own form.

3. 03

   Register online

   Complete the online form, upload your ID, and pay the annual fee.

4. 04

   Get your license

   Receive your NHU license number by email. You're ready to play.
